Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

FinderCue (“FinderCue,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independently developed macOS utility. This Privacy Policy applies to the FinderCue app, the website at findercue.app, downloads, update services, and support communications.

2. Information processed by the app

FinderCue uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand whether the app is being used and which versions remain active. When Analytics is enabled and the app launches, the Firebase SDK may automatically process basic app and device information, such as app version, operating-system version, device category, language or locale, country derived from an IP address, session information, automatically collected app-use events, and a pseudonymous app-instance identifier.

We use this information only to estimate active usage, understand version adoption, plan compatibility work, and improve FinderCue. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or tracking you across other companies’ apps or websites.

3. Information FinderCue does not collect

FinderCue does not collect, transmit, or store:

• file or folder names, paths, contents, or metadata;
• Finder browsing history or the locations you open;
• clipboard contents or paths you copy, type, or paste;
• the contents of Terminal, Visual Studio Code, or other apps;
• your name, email address, contacts, or payment details through the app; or
• advertising identifiers for advertising or cross-app tracking.

FinderCue’s Accessibility and Automation permissions are used locally to display the address bar and interact with Finder. Granting these permissions does not cause Finder content to be uploaded to us.

4. Website, downloads, and updates

The FinderCue website does not use advertising cookies or website analytics cookies. The site, downloads, and update feed are delivered through Cloudflare. As with most internet services, Cloudflare may process request data such as IP address, date and time, requested URL, user-agent or device information, referring page, response status, and security signals to deliver content, prevent abuse, and maintain reliability.

We log successful download requests in aggregate, including the requested download path, request method, file size, and response status. FinderCue also uses Sparkle to check our update feed and download signed updates. Those requests are subject to the same ordinary server and network logging described above.

5. Support messages and donations

If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include in the message or attachments. We use it only to respond, provide support, protect FinderCue, or keep records when reasonably necessary.

If you follow the Ko-fi link and make a donation, Ko-fi and its payment providers process the transaction under Ko-fi’s Privacy Policy. FinderCue does not receive your full payment-card details.

6. How and why we use information

We process the limited information described above to:

• operate, secure, and deliver FinderCue and its website;
• measure active installations and version adoption;
• provide signed updates and troubleshoot failures;
• detect abuse and protect the download service; and
• respond to support and legal requests.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating and improving FinderCue, performance of a request you make (such as delivering a download or replying to support), compliance with legal obligations, or consent where consent is required.

7. Service providers and disclosure

We use a small number of providers to operate FinderCue: Google Analytics for Firebase for app analytics, Cloudflare for website delivery, downloads, security, and infrastructure, and Ko-fi if you choose to donate. These providers may process technical information on our behalf under their own privacy terms. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell or rent personal information.

8. Retention and international processing

App analytics event-level data is retained for no longer than 14 months. Aggregated reports that no longer identify an app instance may be retained longer. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve the request, maintain necessary records, or meet legal obligations. Cloudflare and other providers retain service and security logs according to their own retention practices.

Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, they use contractual and other safeguards for international transfers.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

To make a request, email findercue@gmail.com. Because FinderCue has no user accounts and we do not know your identity from a pseudonymous app-instance identifier alone, we may be unable to locate or connect analytics data to you without additional information from your device. We will not ask for more information than reasonably needed to handle the request.

10. Children

FinderCue is a general-purpose productivity utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can address it.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the limited data we process. FinderCue releases are code-signed, notarized by Apple, and delivered through encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when FinderCue, its providers, or applicable requirements change. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use information, we will provide additional notice where reasonably possible or legally required.
